Tryvertising ...and the power of customer feedback

L-cafe in Tokyo's Shibuya district has an unusual but  soon to be widely copied business model.

Its equal parts cafe and sample shop. The genius part comes in its very simple system. Every purchase from the cafe rewards shoppers with a "coin" these coins are traded in for trial products from its "sample counter".

The samples are tracked along with the customer and later the customers provide feedback in exchange for more free samples. These samples range from food and drink to cosmetic products.

More detail can be read in this springwise.com article

Its a great idea to be honest. The nature of the shop brings in two types of revenue with one product leading to another and repeat buying encouraged by changing the samples in store. But the real point is how valued the customers opinion is here, the target audience of 20-30yr old Japanese are more likely to express the opinion on the product when done in such a relaxed atmosphere instead of the samples shoved into consumer's face.

I love this idea of getting products into consumers hands and for a small price everybody wins!
